                               Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions:
What is a consignment sale and why should I participate?
A consignment sale is a great way to Clean Out your childs closets and Cash In.  Unlike a consignment store, we give you the opportunity to hang, tag and price your new and gently used children's items and sell them at a sale that WE set up.  In return you receive 70% of what you earn in sales, minus the $5 consignor fee.  This rate of return is much greater than a store that usually only offers you about 20-30% of what they plan to sell your items for.  Other advantages: we have over 4000 sq feet to showcase your items, you are freed up to run errands and do other things while we take away the hassle that can come with garage sale bartering AND we advertise in many ways to bring in shoppers.

How often do you have these sales?
We hold sales twice a year in the Spring and Fall, typically in March and September.

Is there a fee to get into the sale?
No, there is no fee for parking or to get into the sale.

Do I have to consign or volunteer to shop?  Do I have to consign to volunteer?
No, we are open to public at various times for 3 days.  You are NOT required to consign in order to volunteer.

Is the sale held indoors?
Yes.  We have recently started using a great ballroom facility in Plano.  Please see our contact us page for the address and a map of the location.

What types of items do you sell?
We take new and gently used in season children's clothing size newborn to 16, in season maternity clothing, shoes, socks, books, dvds, videos, games, small and large toys,  indoor and outdoor play equipment, bikes, wagons, Nursery furniture (cribs, dressers, gliders, etc), baby gear (swings, jump-a-roos, strollers, pack and plays, etc) and much more.

Do you provide child care at the sale?  Can I bring my child with me?
For liability reason we are NOT able to offer child care while you drop off your items, shop or volunteer.  Children are allowed during the public shopping times, but please be aware that at times it can get very crowded and the check out lines can be long.  We do ask that parents keep their children with them at all times while at the sale and refrain from allowing them to play on the large play equipment.

Buyers Questions:
What forms of payment do you take?

We take cash, checks with photo id, Visa and MasterCard.

How do you price your items?
All of the prices are set by the consignor who hang, tag and price the items, due to this we are unable to adjust the prices on the tags.

Are shopping carts provided?
There are not shopping carts, but we do have a few laundry baskets and some large totes that can be borrowed to hold your items.  We suggest that you bring your own as the loaner ones are snatched up rather quickly during the busy times.  We also have an area set aside to hold your items until you are ready to go through check out.

What does Discount - No, Half - No, no 1/2 or a on the tag mean?

The last day of the sale is our half price day, in which we allow the consignors to decide if they would like to sale their items for half price.  If a tag has no 1/2, a star, discount-no, half-no or any variation that indicates no half it means that the item will be charged at full price, even if it is half price day.

What does "No Tag - No Sale" mean?

All items are priced by the consignor.  If an items loses it's tag and we are unable to pair the two back up, we are unable to sale that item because we will not know the price the consignor meant it to be sold for and we will not know who to pay for that item.  .

What is your return policy?

All sales are final.

Am I allowed to try on the clothing and/or shoes?

Sorry, but we are unable to provide space to try on the clothing.  Most shoppers measure their children's clothing at home (waist, hem length, skirt length, etc) and bring a measuring tape with them to ensure an accurate fit.

How can I get in to shop early?
There are several ways to take part in the presale that occurs prior to opening to the public.  You could volunteer to earn an early shopping pass, consign and get in with the consignors, visit our Stork Club page to see if you are eligible for a Stork Club pass or you can get in on a friends and family pass.  Contact us to find out more about our friends and family pass.  Our volunteers will receive 1 presale pass and a consignor guest pass.  Consignors and Stork Club members will receive a pass and a pass to bring along a friend, spouse, grandparent, etc.

Are children allowed at the presale?
For the safety of our shoppers, volunteers and vendors we are unable to allow children OR strollers  into the sale prior to the Stork Club presale time.  The only exception being if you are nursing a non-walking child.  If you have a child that is 12 years old or older they may attend using your guest pass.

Consignor Questions:
What is the fee to consign and what is the the percentage that I will be paid?
Unless you take advantage of the early bird prepaid registration discount, you will receive 70% MINUS a $5.00 consignor fee.

Can I consign with you and how do I register?
Yes, anyone can consign with us.  Please visit our registration page.  If you consign in other sales, we may be able to provide you with the same consignor number.  By doing this, we allow you to consign with us without having to alter or change out all of the tags on your items.

Do I have to stay the entire time to sell my items?
No, you will bring your items up during one of our drop off times and go through the check in process.  Once you have been checked in, you are free to go until it is time to shop or pick up your items.

When will I receive my consignor payment check?
We work very hard to get the checks out within 14 business days from the end of the sale.

Where do I find safety pins, hangers and index cards?  Do you return my hangers at the end of the sale?
Sometimes dry cleaners can provide you with hangers and safety pins.  While we prefer the child sized wire hangers, we understand that they are not always easy to find.  We suggests keeping the child sized plastic hangers from any of the stores that you visit for hanging your items for the sale.  Safety pins and index cards may be found at any number of stores from the big box discount stores to the grocery store.  Due to the natures of the sale and how busy it can be at times, we are unable to remove the clothing items from the hangers; therefore, we are unable to return hangers to you at the end.

What do you accept and how do I prepare my items?
Clothing must be in season for the time of year that it is being sold and in current style.  We do not accept items that are obviously unwashed, have a moldy smell, are visibly worn, have stains, pilling, holes, rips, tears, etc.  For detailed information on what we accept please click here to go to our Items Accepted page.  For detailed information on how to prepare your items please click here to go to our Item Prep page.

What do you do with the items that do not sell?
Once the sale is over, we sort all of the items by consignor number and prepare them for you to pick up during the designated pick up times.  Or, you may choose to donate all of your unsold items to the charity that the sale owners have partner up with.

How many items can I consign?
There is no limit on how many items you can place in the sale.

Volunteer Questions:
Can anyone volunteer?
Yes.  You do not have to consign or be a member of the Stork Club to volunteer.

Am I required to volunteer if I consign?
No, you are not required to volunteer if you consign.

What will I have to do if I volunteer and how many hours are required?
If you would like to volunteer even for just an hour, we would be very happy to have you.  In order to take advantage of our Volunteer Incentives, you will need to volunteer for at least 4 hours.  We can work with you if you are not able to volunteer 4 hours straight.  To find out more about our volunteer incentives, when our various volunteer shifts are, what you could possibly be asked to do and what our general guidelines are for volunteering, please visit our Volunteer page.

Do you provide child care for your volunteers or can I bring my child with me?
For liability reason we are NOT able to offer child care or allow the children of our volunteers to be brought to the sale during their shift.  Volunteering is a great way to get out of the house, meet new people and have some fun.  Please see our guidelines regarding ways you can remedy your child care dilemma.

Can I volunteer for more than 1 shift?
Yes, volunteering for 2 shifts will allow you to earn an earlier shopping pass.

I am pregnant or have a medical condition that prevents me from standing for long periods or lifting heavy objects.  Will this prevent me from being able to volunteer?
No, you can still volunteer.  We just ask that you sign up for a shift that is not labled as set up or sort/break down as these shifts do require a lot of standing, heavy lifting, and carrying large stacks of clothing.  If you fall into this catergory, just let us know when we email you to confirm your volunteer time that you will need special consideration when we assign you a task (ie you are in a foot cast and will need to sit during your shift).

What happens if I need to cancel my shift?
We understand that things happen and ask that you let us know as soon as possible that you are not able to make it and that you find someone else who can take your shift.  If you sign up and do not show up, call or make arrangements to work a different shift or for someone to take your shift for you, we will not be able to allow you to volunteer at future sales.
